Community Church Members Renovate a Home and Walk for the Hungry

Members and friends of Greenbelt Community Church rolled up their sleeves on April 26 and renovated a Hyattsville home. Youth and adults with various skills replaced the kitchen floor, painted, trimmed trees, planted azaleas, repaired faulty electrical wiring, installed gutters, and built a wheelchair access ramp. As one of four churches to sponsor a home through Prince George's County's "Christmas in April," the congregation provided all the necessary engineering, labor, organization, and materials for the project.

Having taken a short breather, Greenbelt Community Church then participated in a CROP Walk on May 4 in order to raise funds for Church World Service (CWS). An interdenominational agency, CWS provides disaster relief and sponsor agricultural projects to combat hunger worldwide; CWS is currently assisting people devastated by floods in the American Midwest and South. In addition, a quarter of this year's proceeds will remain here in Prince George's County to feed the hungry locally. Eighty members of Greenbelt Community Church participated in the CROP Walk; the church has brought more people to the walk than any church in the county for three of the last four years.
