Register to Vote, Muslims Told at Chicago Convention

"Register to Vote Today" read the sign in Chicago, and this was the message impressed upon participants in the annual convention of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), according to the Chicago Tribune. The Council of Islamic Organizations in Greater Chicago, which organized the event, said that 18,000 Muslims turned up for the August 31-September 1. Convention participants were urged by Muslim leaders and local elected officials to take greater part in the political process in order to encourage political candidates with Muslim values.

The ISNA is the largest of four umbrella organizations for American Muslims. Over the weekend, the ISNA also hosted an interfaith breakfast to discuss Islamic, Christian, and Jewish approaches to family values.
