Postal Workers Win Time off for Jewish Holy Days – This Year

Florida postal workers who were denied time off for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur have been given a one-year reprieve, Jewish Telegraphic Agency reports. The Coral Springs employees had been denied vacation time because only six out of the office's nearly 100 employees are allowed to take time off at once. At least eight of the employees are Jewish. In addition, the office's management said that the employees had waited too long before requesting the vacation.

After receiving protests from the Anti-Defamation League, the office manager waived the time requirement and found non-Jewish employees who were willing to switch days off with the Jewish employees. The Jewish employees were warned that they must request next year's vacation 60 days in advance, and that the requests will be considered on a first come, first served basis.
