    Greenbelt Interfaith News

Muslim parents wanting to become more involved with their children's public school education met in Herndon, Virginia, on September 27, The Washington Post reports. The three-hour workshop they attended was sponsored by the Coalition of Muslim Organizations, which formed in February in order to persuade school systems to take Islamic traditions into account when formulating policies. The coalition is made up a number of Islamic organizations in the area.

In addition to discussing ways that parents could take greater part in school activities, the workshop participants also sought ways to reconcile Islamic practices with the sometimes contradictory customs of public schools About 40 parents took part in the workshop, which was held at the All Dulles Muslim Society Center.
